Found a source for free samples

Postby atarisince1989 » Thu Mar 03, 2011 2:53 pm

Today I found this website Free sound samples - OLPC, which contains links to archive.org libraries of samples in WAV format.

I haven't used any on my S2000, but I'm planing to :D I downloaded a couple of files and the sound quality sound pretty good, some have things like samples of the same instrument at different octaves.

Let's see if I can manage to get it into my S2000 now that I got Iomega ZIP and SCSI cables.
My toys:

- Atari Falcon030 (running SpareMiNT+TeraDesk) 14MB RAM TOS 4.04 + 4GB Microdrive & external CF slot + NVRAM mod + SCSI buffer clock mod + EtherNEC
- Amstrad CPC 6128 + HxC USB Floppy Emulator

Great stuff.
Thanks for the link.
I will try some samples with ACE, when I have time. :-)

I'll be having a look as I need to re-stock my S-750 and also need a good excuse to load and play with Zero-X on the falcon

I also must go through some of my library some time, I may even set up an area here for samples (Though I'll need to clear this with the hosting powers that be as I'll be swallowign huge amounts of space)
The collection:

Atari 260ST, 520ST, 520ST+, 520STfm, STacy, Mega ST2
Atari STe, Mega STE, ST Book
Atari TT030, with 2GB Hard drive
Atari Falcon, 14MB, 40GB IDE drive
Atari Megafile 44

That's my intention too. Just today I have received the SCSI II cable to connect the Falcon to the S2000. I transferred between Zero-X and the S2000 previously, but using the MIDI connection, so SCSI shouldn't be much different apart from the huge increase in speed :D

On Saturday I was playing around a bit with the S2000, to learn how to do samples. I connected the MacBook line-out to the S2000 mono input, and is so easy to get samples done. I sampled a clarinet and managed to get it onto a program, but doesn't seem to get the octave well. If I sample on C_3 is OK, but if I sample in C_2 it sounds higher. I thought I had to sample on the root note I wanted to keep the sample on, so I thought I could sample 1 on C_2, other in C_3 and other in C_4 (remember those samples have different .wav for different octaves), then keygroup it and I would have the clarinet sounding perfect through the whole keyboard. But couldn't manage to get it. I'll have to give another try. Maybe using Zero-X will be easier.

OK, done my test. I've connected the S2000 to the Falcon through SCSSI and it rocks. Really fast transfer using Zero-X. Still have to assign the samples to the programs and do all the configuration. Also as a downside, I cannot have both the Falcon and the Iomega ZIP connected at the same time, so I have to transfer as many samples as the RAM allows me, then connect the ZIP and save it, but hey, still works really well.

Would be really good to have a full editor, like MESA for W98, but my PC doesn't have SCSSI.

Sounds like a daft idea, but can't the falcon connect through the zip drive? I think you should be able to daisychain through it if you switch the termination off on the zip (small switch on the bak of the unit between the 2 scsi ports)

hmmm, good idea. The Iomega ZIP have a bypass connector. Maybe it could be connected to the Atari. I'll try it.
