Unitor 2 SMPTE... Song won't start

Unitor 2 SMPTE... Song won't start

Postby Spadz » Fri Aug 13, 2010 4:50 am

Hello,

I was wondering if someone would have an idea as to why song won't start. I see the time follow the SMPTE track input but no MIDI is being sent. It looks like everything is stalled except for the time...

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks

is this with Logic or Creator/Notator?

I've no real experience on Creator/Notator but I do know in Cubase, unless the synchronisation is set external and the song mode set to follow, it will happily update the SMPTE time and ignore any playback.

Anyone else any idea's on this?

Hi,

I'm using Notator Sl 3.51 on Atari ST. The real deal.

The sync is properly. I can clearly see the time change while the SMPTE signal comes in. The song just sits there, nothing is played.

It's the first complete song I make on the software and I had made some tests and all seemd fine, so I'm really confused.

Hi Spadz,
Have you got the central Sync box at the top set to SMPTE?
If you have, go to the SMPTE pull down menu to the right and check the settings there.
You'll have to put in a start time reference, and the number of bars that you want the song to run for.
It could be that your start time is already set to a different value in the song, so Notator is waiting for the timing to get to the planned part of the song before it kicks off.

Try these and report back and we'll get you up and running.

Best wishes,
Dave

It sounds like a possibility. I do have a hard time grasping how that works relatively to the song...

I'll do some more tests, and I'll report back here with the numbers if it still doesn't work.

Thanks!

Well, it's been a long time I know... Wife, kids, work, everything took over the little time I have to invest in music.

That being said, for the first time in months I actually had a few hours in a row without being bothered and I figured out why it wasn't starting.
I'm ashamed to say it was really stupid. I own the original 3.x manual and I finally add the opportunity to read the whole thing on SMPTE.

I clearly understand what the fields mean. The values were fine, just wouldn't start. I was seeing the time change and follow at the top of Notator... Then I see in the manual "Click on Create....". Then it worked. And it worked really well.
I was very happy. And, as an admitted tech geek, I was ashamed that I did not RTFM properly!

I admit this is the first time I deal with SMPTE sync.

Thanks guys for the help.
